Founded in 2017 by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel, Redwood Materials is a Nevada-based company focused on building a circular supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. It recycles used batteries and electronics to recover critical materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper, achieving recovery rates over 95%. The company operates its flagship facility in northern Nevada and is developing a major campus in South Carolina. With plans to produce 100 GWh of cathode and copper-anode materials annually by 2025, Redwood aims to supply batteries for over one million electric vehicles per year. It partners with companies like Panasonic, Ford, GM, and Amazon.
