Founded in 2014, CMBlu Energy based in Alzenau, Germany, with U.S. operations in Petaluma, California, develops long‑duration energy storage systems using its patented Organic SolidFlow™ technology. Its batteries employ carbon‑based solid electrolyte materials and water‑based electrolytes, offering high energy density, non‑flammability, and recyclability. In 2023, the company secured a strategic €100 million (~$106.7 million) investment from STRABAG SE to scale manufacturing in Europe and the U.S. Ongoing pilot projects include a 1–2 MWh demonstration with WEC Energy in Wisconsin and a 5 MW, 10‑hour Desert Blume system under development with Salt River Project. With around 250 employees across Germany, Greece, and the U.S., CMBlu aims for global commercialization of safe, sustainable long‑duration storage.
