Organization Information : Nucor is North America’s most diversified producer of steel and steel products. Our brand family ranges from the raw materials to finished steel products. Learn more about the Nucor family by exploring our brands.Nuclear Corporation makes two strategic moves that change the company and ultimately the American steel industry: the acquisition of Vulcraft, a producer of steel joists and girders, and the hiring of Ken Iverson to run Vulcraft. Iverson soon emerges as one of the great visionaries and mavericks in American industry. The company opens a second Vulcraft plant in Nebraska to meet increasing demand for steel joists. Based on the success of its first two plants, Vulcraft purchases M&S Steel Company of Fort Payne, Alabama in 1967, which becomes Vulcraft – Alabama, and builds its fourth steel joist plant in Grapeland, Texas the following year. Business booms, and Vulcraft’s growth has continued ever since.Nucor continued to expand into steel-adjacent businesses, welcoming C.H.I. Overhead Doors, Summit Utility Structures, Sovereign Steel Manufacturing and Elite Storage Solutions to the Nucor family. This growth built on the momentum of 2021, which saw the additions of Hannibal Industries, CENTRIA and Metl-Span.
Other Information: Founded in 1955, Nucor Corporation traces its roots to the REO Motor Car Company, which restructured via a reverse takeover into Nuclear Consultants and eventually reshaped into Nucor. Prior to the rename in 1972, the company transitioned into steelmaking, pioneering the electric arc furnace‑based mini‑mill model with its first steel mill in Darlington, South Carolina, launched in 1969.Today, Nucor is the largest steel producer in the United States and the largest recycler in North America, operating more than 300 facilities including mini‑mills, fabrication centers, and recycling operations, with annual steel production exceeding 18 million tons and recycling nearly the same volume of scrap.Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Nucor employs over 30,000 workers. It is known for its decentralized, performance-driven culture, lean corporate structure, and employee incentive system tied to productivity and quality.Nucor exclusively uses electric arc furnace technology—enabling flexible, energy-efficient steelmaking that leans heavily on recycled content—and holds leadership in most of the product categories it serves, including rebar, sheet, plate, and structural steel .The company has grown through disciplined acquisitions and organic expansion, maintaining consistent dividend growth for over five decades and strong financial discipline in capital allocation
